CENTAURO Project

European industry is evolving. More factories are seeking to automate processes, reduce response times, and adapt to new market conditions. To achieve this, technology is essential: mobile robots, collaborative systems, and artificial intelligence.

This is where CENTAURO comes in—a national project led by Synersight, framed within the 2023 Science and Innovation Missions Program (TransMisiones), promoted by the CDTI and the State Research Agency. Its objective: to research and develop advanced technologies to shape a new national industry of autonomous robotic solutions.

What is the CENTAURO Project?

The project aims to design and validate a new generation of autonomous mobile manipulators, equipped with AI technologies and designed to operate in real industrial environments with flexibility, safety, and efficiency.

Beyond technological innovation, CENTAURO is committed to strengthening the national robotics ecosystem, reducing external technological dependence, and generating strategic capabilities for the Spanish industrial fabric.

Main Development Lines

  1. Design of mobile manipulators with advanced perception: Robots capable of interpreting their environment through intelligent sensors and adapting to changing conditions.

  2. AI and autonomous learning for decision-making: Incorporation of algorithms that improve robot performance in real-time, depending on the environment and task.

  3. Autonomous navigation with 3D SLAM: Development of localization and mapping systems that allow robots to move precisely, both indoors and outdoors.

  4. Intuitive interfaces and teleoperation systems: Creation of simple control tools that enable any operator to interact with the robot without advanced technical knowledge.

Key Technologies Developed in CENTAURO

  • Intelligent navigation in changing environments: Development of localization and real-time route planning systems using 3D SLAM, even in unstructured environments.

  • Advanced robotic manipulation: Application of artificial intelligence to improve the detection, identification, and precise grasping of objects, optimizing tasks such as picking or assembly.

  • High-precision perception: Integration of 3D sensors, such as industrial cameras, for better interpretation of the environment and safe execution of complex tasks.

  • Simplified human-robot interaction: Intuitive interfaces and remote control systems that facilitate the robot’s use in the daily operations of the plant.

  • Cybersecurity in connected environments: Implementation of protection measures to ensure data and communication security in robots connected to the cloud or industrial networks.

Synersight’s Leadership

At Synersight, we lead the CENTAURO consortium, bringing our experience in customized AGVs, intelligent navigation, and industrial automation solutions. As project coordinators, we work closely with technology companies and research centers to ensure that the project’s results are applicable, transferable, and scalable within the Spanish industrial context.
